Oh Freedom! Civil Rights Musical
The Civil Rights Movement has been described as one of the greatest singing movements that this country has experienced. From the Freedom Riders, to the the jails of Montgomery Alabama, to Washington DC, songs of the era engaged and energized the struggle and became the backbone of the nonviolent civil disobedience movement.
In a powerful show created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the movement, award winning musician/folklorist Chris Vallillo performs 11 of the pivotal songs that inspired and sustained this landmark movement along with first hand accounts of the historic struggle and discusses the impact of music to our nations most important social cause. He will be joined onstage by Springfield’s own Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Choir.
Event begins at 7:00pm. Illinois Gallery will be open to view our newest exhibit, "In This Great Struggle: The Greatest Generation Remembers WWII", made possible with generous support from AT&T.
E-TICKET MUST BE PRESENTED FOR ENTRY (printed or on digital device).
