Oh Freedom! Civil Rights Musical
Music played a vital role in the long struggle for civil rights. It lifted spirits, inspired protesters and sweetened victory celebrations. In “Oh Freedom!” musician Chris Vallillo and Springfield’s Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Choir bring a full concert of these inspirational songs to the stage, from the powerful gospel of “Wade in the Water” to the quiet strength of “We Shall Overcome.” The concert takes place on “Juneteenth,” the holiday celebrating freedom from slavery, particularly the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas received word of their emancipation.
Event begins at 7:00pm. Illinois Gallery will be open to view our newest exhibit, "In This Great Struggle: The Greatest Generation Remembers WWII", made possible with generous support from AT&T.
E-TICKET MUST BE PRESENTED FOR ENTRY (printed or on digital device).
