Shawn Michelle Smith - Pictures and Progress

Historian Shawn Michelle Smith is the foremost historian of 19th century photography and its revolutionary effect upon identity.  She will discuss her book "Pictures and Progress," which explores the way early African-American leaders used photography to counter racist images and empower people.

Museum will open at 6:00pm.  Book signing at 6:00pm.  Discussion at 6:30pm.  Museum journeys and galleries will be open.
