A Play-Reading of Mary and Myra
A powerful play set in 1875, when Mary Lincoln was sent to an insane asylum in Batavia, Illinois by her only living son. Her progressive friend Myra Bradwell (Illinois’ first woman lawyer) arrives to help Mary gain her release by exposing the injustices of her trial. The two grapple with their pasts and their own perceptions of freedom and womanhood.
